Iwona (Iwonka) Bancerek

Biography:
Iwona spent over four years at INSEAD running research projects related to entrepreneurship, strategy, business models, venture capital and private equity. She provided research assistance on papers published in Strategic Management Journal and Organization Science.

She has also worked at Wharton Business School as a research consultant for the MBA program. Her research focus was on value creation, business development and high-tech IPOs. Iwona was involved in a microfinance internet start-up.

During the past 4 years in Tokyo she has been working as a headhunter for one of the leading firms where she specializes in the finance and consulting area.


Keith Braden

Biography:
Mr. Braden is an international training consultant and lecturer specializing in management skills training including: presentation, negotiation, meeting, marketing and sales. Mr. Braden has developed and conducted management skills seminars for major Japanese and foreign affiliated corporations in Japan. In addition, he tutors senior Japanese executives, focusing on business management principles and core business English.

Mr. Braden retired from the airline industry after a thirty-five year international career, during which time he was primarily assigned to Asia and Pacific Rim countries, including Japan. At the time of his retirement, he was Senior Vice President Marketing and Sales.

Others have characterized Mr. Braden as incisive in identifying problems, imaginative in finding and implementing solutions, ever ready to teach and develop subordinates, and one who is genuinely interested in people.


Gil Chavez

Biography:
As a communications professional and educator for nearly 20 years, Mr. Chavez has worked with many of the top brands in the Asia Pacific region planning communications programs with executives to improve their performance in media interviews, press conferences and investor relations presentations.

Mr. Chavez has spent 14 years working in international business in Japan, as Senior Vice President of Hill & Knowlton and in corporate and marketing communications at IBM Asia Pacific.

Mr. Chavez has been a professor of public relations and advertising at California Polytechnic State University. He was also a competitive market analyst for the consulting division of Nortel Networks. Before coming to Japan, he worked in public relations and as a reporter and editor in the United States.


Mark Ford

Biography:
Dr. Mark Ford has been working closely with Japanese financial services institutions, ventures, and government since 1994.

His introduction to Japan was as principal scientist of several aerospace projects, which were developed jointly by the U.S. and Japanese governments. After a post at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Dr. Ford concluded that he could be a better agent for improving Japanese and U.S. industry from the private sector. Since that time, he has worked extensively in financial services and other sectors in Japan, involved with corporate venturing, corporate strategy, restructuring, M&A, and alliances for multinational companies.

Concurrently, Dr. Ford is involved with Vietnam-related projects, medicine and healthcare, and teaches at several universities.


Atsushi Funakawa

Biography:
After working for Toshiba and American Life Insurance Company, Mr. Funakawa worked as a management consultant in Silicon Valley. While he is involved as a representative partner in consulting projects relating organizational development and corporate change, he has conducted numerous business seminars featuring organization, leadership, and human resource development.

Yoshito Hori

Biography:
After working for Sumitomo Corporation, Mr. Hori established the GLOBIS Corporation in 1992. He is also a founding partner of the Globis Incubation Fund in 1996 and the Apax Globis Japan Fund (presently Globis Capital Partners (GCP)) in 1999.

Mr. Hori founded the Graduate School of Management, Globis University in April 2006, and as a Dean teaches "Entrepreneurial Leadership".

Mr. Hori founded the Young Entrepreneurs' Organization (YEO) Japan Chapter and became the first board member in charge of the YEO Asia Pacific region. He also served as the first Japanese representative on the World Economic Forum's New Asian Leaders Executive Committee and is a member of the Harvard Business School Alumni Board. Currently, he is serving as a member of the board of the Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives) and the Japan Private Equity Association.

Masaru Hoshino

Biography:
Mr. Hoshino has experience working for a Japanese trading company where he was engaged in project finance for natural resource development projects mainly in Southeast Asia. He has also worked as a non-executive director at a petrochemicals manufacturing company specializing in equity investment, project lending and marketing petrochemical products.

At Globis, he is in charge of developing financial courses and materials while teaching at Globis Management School. He also conducts corporate training for Globis Organizational Learning.

Tomoko Katsurayama

Stefan Lippert

Biography:
Dr. Stefan Lippert is a business school professor and management consultant. He teaches MBA and executive classes at business schools in Japan and overseas. He is also a Senior Adviser to the European School of Management and Technology CS in Berlin.

Dr. Lippert is an active scholar and author in the areas of corporate globalization strategies, organizational behavior, and leadership. His current interests include the internationalization of Japanese service firms and SMEs, especially the “Hidden Champions” (unknown world market leaders).

In his consulting work, Dr. Lippert advises Japanese and international companies primarily on international marketing, organizational transformation and cross-border M&A. He was the Managing Partner Japan of Simon-Kucher & Partners, a global strategy & marketing consulting firm. Prior to joining Simon-Kucher, Dr. Lippert worked with McKinsey & Company.


Hirofumi Matsubayashi

Mr. Matsubayashi worked at a chemical agent manufacturing company and was engaged in international trade and sales. After completing his MBA program at the University of Michigan, he joined Johnson Professional where he was in charge of development of mid and long-term corporate strategy and of coordination of global divisions.

Mr. Matsubayashi is now a faculty member at Globis, teaching Marketing and Corporate Strategy. He also gives marketing and strategy advice to municipal government officials, consulting services, as well as business seminars to neighboring countries like Cambodia upon the request of their local government related agencies. In addition he is a USEN personality at Business Book Radio, interviewing numerous profound guests.


Tsuyoshi Mori

Tomoya Nakamura

Biography:
Mr. Nakamura wrote two HBS cases that apply Eastern philosophy to management as a Research Associate of the General Management Unit of Harvard Business School.

Mr. Nakamura joined Marubeni Corporation and while seconded to Advantage Partners, worked on the reorganizations of invested companies. As General Manager of Fuji Machinery Mfg. & Electronics Corporation, he contributed in the rapid reorganization of the company. As Senior Managing Director at Sun-Life Corporation, he introduced a progressive ESOP for more than 250 employees, including part-time workers.

At GLOBIS, Mr. Nakamura is in charge of the International MBA Program. Mr. Nakamura teaches subjects in the leadership area and has conducted various global training programs to GLOBIS' corporate clients. Mr. Nakamura writes a column, "Ki and Management" periodically at GLOBIS.JP.


Hirohide Oshima

Biography:
Mr. Oshima has worked for Tokyo Bank (currently Mitsubishi Tokyo UFJ Bank) and was engaged in selling marketable bank products and fundraising US dollars. He then moved to Goldman Sachs Securities and was involved with M&A advisory services. He has also worked in Toyota Financial Service, a financial company which has control of Toyota-related financial services, and was engaged in corporate strategy, restructuring, and global fundraising. He joined Globis in 2007.

Mr. Oshima created a business plan for cost-effective and high-quality English education utilizing outstanding human resources from abroad and took second place in the Business Plan Contest during his study at the Darden School. In 2002, he founded Manabi Corporation and is currently working as an advisor.


Kiyo Sasaki

Biography:
After graduating from High School and University in the U.S., Ms. Sasaki worked for a financial institution in New York. She then came back to Japan to work for McKinsey & Company where she managed the recruitment of specialists and the coordination of Corporate Finance Practices. She has also worked for Spencer Stuart, a global executive search firm, where she was involved in talent recruitment and assessment.

At Globis, in addition to leading the research center in the corporate training department, writing cases and developing class materials, Ms. Sasaki teaches at the Globis Management School and in the International MBA Program.


David Sigaty

Biography:
Mr. Sigaty began his career in public accounting in the United States. Since earning his CPA in California, he has spent the last thirty years in banking, investment banking, asset management, and insurance enterprises in Japan. He has had a variety of staff and management roles in accounting, credit and investment analysis, fixed income trading, risk control, and strategic planning. In recent years he has served as Asia/Pacific financial controller for a major investment bank, Japan CFO for a global asset management group, and CFO of a Japanese life insurance company.

Mr. Sigaty is fascinated by the ideas of behavioral finance and their impact on decision making in business and the interpretation of information (both financial and non-financial). He spends a great deal of his spare time playing Igo (6 dan) and has been known to indulge his taste for Japanese sake (nihon shu).


V. Sriram

Toru Takahashi

Biography:
After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Sophia University, Mr. Takahashi was employed by Marubeni Corporation, where he was primarily involved in developing overseas businesses with machinery makers. During his career at Marubeni, he participated in infrastructure development projects in the Middle East and subsequently engaged in a wide range of businesses in Brussels including management support, development of logistics, and financing for invested companies and business partners in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

As Managing Director of Globis Organizational Learning, he is currently involved in overseeing personnel and organizational development projects for corporate clients mainly in the service, high-tech, electronics, telecommunications and IT-related sectors. He also lectures on leadership, analytical skills and strategy at the Globis Management School and corporate training seminars.


Megumi Taoka

Akira Toda

John Vandenbrink

Mr. Vandenbrink began his business career in the Chicago Office of Booz Allen, the consulting firm. He then moved to J.P. He was Managing Director and Head of Credit Risk in Japan first at Deutsche Bank and subsequently at Morgan Stanley. Kenya Yoshino
